What Marcus Rashford taught us
Sporting icons inspire by their deeds and achievements on the field. They make you look at them with awe with the way they display their talents. We are talking about a majority here.
There is a group of people who are equally good at exhibiting their skills on the field and being compassionate off it. They work relentlessly towards creating a better society. They do not forget where they come from. They remember the struggles they went through in their lives. They do everything within their limits to prevent others from going through the struggle. Manchester United and England striker, Marcus Rashford falls in this category.
I had a friend who passed away early this year. The family suffered both emotionally and financially. We will need a lot of years to get out of the former. For the latter though, we could do a lot. I tried a few campaigns, but deep inside I always had the worry about being perceived as a publicity stuntman. I was worried if the post gets repeated on someone's timeline, it could be distasteful.
All these thoughts vanished when I observed Marcus Rashford's Twitter timeline in the last 6-8 months ,to end poverty and child hunger. Marcus takes his campaigns so seriously, he cares nothing about the distractor. He firmly believes as long as you are promoting something for a good cause, be right into it. Repeat it enough number of times until it gets heard by enough number of people.
I followed it and I was able to generate some money which I wouldn't have been able to do had I held back. The lesson is, when you campaign for something you honestly believe will make a difference to someone or the society, get deep into it. Marcus taught me that. And he is only turning 23 today! Scary to even imagine how much he can achieve with and without a Football in years to follow.
Thank you, Marcus Rashford. I'm very proud to call myself a fan of yours! Wishing you a very happy birthday!
